ASAM 2026 is committed to sustainable practices and reducing the impact of events on the environment.
See below the strategies and decisions that have been implement throughout the conference to ensure we deliver a successful and sustainable event. We encourage all attendees to consider environmentally friendly options when attending ASAM 2026.
AT ASAM 2026
Event Materials
Printed materials will be kept to a minimum at ASAM 2026. Where unavoidable, materials will be printed on uncoated paper.
We encourage all attendees to return any printed materials that you do not wish to keep at the conclusion of the conference for recycling.
To limit waste, we have asked delegates to opt in if they would like to receive the delegate gifts; satchel and towel and sunscreen.
Name Badge and Lanyard
The name badges and lanyards used at ASAM 2026 will be recycled at the conclusion of the conference. Please hand your name badge and lanyard in at the registration desk at the conclusion of the conference for recycling.
Plastic name badge slips are used for durability and will be reused at future conferences. The paper name badge will be recycled and lanyard will be sent to TerraCycle for recycling if unable to be reused.
Location
Cairns is committed to protecting the unique natural environment that surrounds the city, with sustainability initiatives focused on climate action, renewable energy, biodiversity and protecting the Great Barrier Reef and Wet Tropics Rainforest. As a destination where two World Heritage areas meet, Cairns continues to support low-impact tourism and innovative, nature-positive practices that help preserve the region for future generations.
Venue
The Cairns Convention Centre is committed to hosting sustainable events, with environmental responsibility incorporated throughout the venue’s design and operations. EarthCheck certified, the Centre uses energy-efficient technologies, rainwater harvesting, water-saving systems, responsible waste management and native landscaping to minimise its environmental impact.
The Centre also prioritises locally sourced and sustainable food, supports local suppliers and conservation initiatives, and offers opportunities for events to contribute to rainforest restoration through its Reforest program.
Sustainable Transport
We’ve made a conscious decision to use electric buses for the dinner transfers, helping to reduce emissions associated with delegate transport and supporting our commitment to a more sustainable conference.
Bring Your Own
Help us reduce waste by bringing your reusable water bottle and keep cup to the conference. Small actions from all of us can make a big difference.
